Spoke-Back Sofa – A Modern Take on a Timeless Concept

Spoke-Back Sofa … reinterpreted some 55 years later.

The iconic Spoke-Back Sofa, designed by Børge Mogensen in 1945, is a true masterpiece of Danish design. Interestingly, it wasn’t put into production until nearly two decades later, in 1963.

Our own Spoke-Back Sofa, designed in 2000, follows a similar design philosophy – crafted from solid wood with delicate spokes in both the back and sides, complemented by comfortable cushions. While not a direct replica, it carries the essence of craftsmanship and simplicity that define great furniture.

Produced by Andersen Furniture, the sofa had only a brief life in production before being discontinued due to low sales. The reason? It was considered too modern. But as history has shown, great design often needs time to find its audience. Perhaps, like Mogensen’s original, its true moment is still ahead.
