Spoke-Back Sofa … interpreted some 55 years later.
The very well-known and highly appreciated Spoke-Back Sofa designed by Mr Børge Mogensen back in 1945 surely was a beauty – yet it was not put into production until nearly 20 years later – in 1963 to be exact.
We are aware this is not similar – not even close – except we did design this sofa with spokes in the back and in the sides, it is made from solid wood and yes, it does have cushions.
We designed it in 2000, and it was actually put into production by Andersen Furniture – for a short period that is – then it was cancelled due to lack of sales. The explanation was that it was too modern.
Well, let’s just hope, as was the fact with Børge Mogensen’s design, that some 15-20 years added to the “date of birth” of our design will bring it into production and hopefully sales.
