Scandic Hotel Aarhus City – A Modern Take on Tradition
Scandic Hotel Aarhus City opened the all-new and yet old hotel in 2012 and chose Bonnelycke MDD to design practically everything “between and on the walls” in their new city hotel.
We approached it with immense respect for the old Østergades Hotel. By keeping the original hotel levels, we were able to maintain a roomy charm often difficult to achieve in a new, “one-level-fits-all” building. We photographed details from the old hotel, later using them as wall decorations, and renowned photographer Mogens Laier contributed his iconic Aarhus photographs. We carefully removed the original cast iron columns and reused them in the new à la carte restaurant.
We designed the reception, conference halls, breakout areas, comfortable sitting areas, lobby bar, breakfast restaurant, and à la carte restaurant. We sculpted the ceilings, designed the lighting, created the signposts, and even crafted all the wall decorations throughout the entire hotel. Altogether, it became more atmosphere than you could ever need.
…and, of course, Managing Director Nina Carlslund introducing the project!
